The Kentucky State Police Professional Association District 9 at Pikeville and the Walmart Supercenter of Pikeville annually hosts a KSPPA Christmas with Kids.
We contact the Family Resource Managers in the 39 elementary schools in the Floyd, Johnson, Magoffin, Martin and Pike counties and they provide the names of two students from each school for a total of 78 children to participate in the program.
The school transports the students to Walmart in Pikeville, and after a short visit and pictures with Santa Claus, the children are assisted by KSPPA members and Walmart employees with shopping for whatever they want.
After shopping for themselves, most children begin to buy gifts for family members. With the satisfaction showing on the children’s faces, this is the most heart warming program that you could be involved in.
When the shopping is complete, the children are then taken to McDonald’s of Pikeville where lunch is graciously provided by the owners, Tom and Bob Hutchinson.
With the combined effort of the KSPPA District 9, Walmart Supercenter of Pikeville and McDonald’s of Pikeville, this is our way of trying to make a difference in the future of the children of today.
